Decorp eyes 20-MW solar panel fields
THE Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp) is pioneering in developing renewable source of energy in the region.
The company is partnering with a Manila-based company to build solar panel fields in its areas of operation that could generate at least 20 megawatts of power and reduce the power that the electric firm is buying from power generators.
Randy Caspillan, Decorp legal officer, said his company recently entered into an agreement with a Manila-based firm whom he did not identify that will install the solar panels in Dagupan, Manaoag, Sta. Barbara and several other areas being served by Decorp.
Speaking at the KBP Forum last week, Caspillan said that in case of power failure emanating from power plants from which Decorp draws power, the company can still deliver electricity to its consumers.
Decorp is currently buying power from the Sual Coal-fired Power Plant in Sual town.
He said that one solar panel that can generate at least one kilowatt of electricity costs P70,000 and expressed confidence that soon will be more households and business establishments in Dagupan that can afford the cost and install solar panels for their own use.
Caspillan reminded households installing their own solar panels to register with Decorp so that they can sell their excess electricity to the company.
Decorp, he said, has adopted a net metering system, which is a requirement of both ERC and DOE, that allows customers who can afford to install their own solar panels in order to reduce their electricity consumption.
Under the scheme, the customer who produces excess electricity, can sell its excess power to Decorp and the amount of electricity that will be sold by him will be computed through the net metering system, Caspillan said.
The customer will be in turn paid through the net metering system because the amount of electricity that will be channeled to Decorp will be deducted from his gross consumption of electricity coming from the firm. (Leonardo Micua)
