WINE DRINKING BOSS. A medical doctor confided to this reporter how her former boss in a government-owned hospital in Pangasinan collected bottles of red wine, his favorite, without spending a centavo.

The boss doctor uses the supposed request of some members of local media for some bottles as his convenient alibi.

My source said her boss would direct his subordinate doctors to donate bottles of red wine on the pretext that a good image for the hospital has to be projected in the media. “Alam nyo naman ang mga kaibigan natin na media,” as he reportedly explains it.

So I asked her, “Why, were there media who asked for red wine from your former boss?”

She replied,” I don’t know but that’s what he would often tell us. So in order to maintain rapport with him, we would just comply.”

The lesson here is: If a newsman indeed asked (not good) for a bottle of wine, and got nothing, he only provided the chief doctor the alibi to collect wine bottles for himself. Akala nyo naisahan nyo sya? Huh! Kayo ang naisahan! Mas wais si doc!

And if the newsman gets a bottle as requested, one must not say “Salamat doc” so quickly…ask for the name of the donor who helped his cause–Tita Roces

NOT THE LAST WORD. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte breezed through his visit to Dagupan last Tuesday, and cancelled a scheduled press conference after speaking in a series of public forums before students, professionals and civic leaders, organized by his friends in Pangasinan, among them lawyer Gonzalo Duque.

Duterte may be a presidential timber but unfortunately a reluctant candidate, admitting he has no money to bankroll a nationwide campaign, unlike others now salivating for the post to be vacated by PNoy. Knowing that one has to have from P10 to P15 billion in his or her treasure trove to aim to become the President of the Philippines, he said “I’m taking myself off the loop because, wala talaga eh.”

However, in subsequent reports out of national media a day after he left, he is reportedly quoted to say he is running for the post.

So is he or is he not? Did he change his mind because someone gave him his P10 billion campaign fund overnight? Ang laking utang ng loob yan and could change his advocacy overnight as well.

So it seems, we have not heard the last word from Duterte, including perhaps in his advocacy for federalism. – Leonardo Micua
