Mayor Belen seeks LBP help for city hall employees
THE Dagupan City government is set to take another step to alleviate the plight of its employees burdened by personal loans with various sources.
This after Mayor Belen Fernandez received an audit observation memorandum from the Commission on Audit (COA) noting errors and lack of control over the salary deduction of officials and employees that result in net monthly take home pay lower than Php3, 000, a violation of Section 46 of the General Provisions of the General Appropriations Act.
The mayor said she will seek an arrangement with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) for special loan plans with lower interests officials and employees of the city government.
“Lesser take home pay does not motivate employees to perform well,” the mayor said. “Somehow they already tend to be lazy”, she added.
She cited an example of one of the employees who only received P26.00 at the end of the month after deducting loan obligations to various credit companies or individuals.
She said she hopes to come to an agreement with LBP to provide loans with lower interest rates that will cover payment of loans to other sources that collect high-interest rates. (Hilda Austria/PNA)
