Gov. Espino urges media to support war against illegal drugs
CAPITOL NEWS
GOV. Amado T. Espino, Jr. thanked the media through the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas-Pangasinan Chapter for extending their support to the information campaign of the provincial government in its development efforts.
Gov. Espino extended his gratitude to the members of the Pangasinan media during a special meeting of the KBP-Pangasinan Chapter held at Lenox Hotel Dagupan City on February 12.
The provincial chief executive said ”I am really thankful from the bottom of my heart,” as he further appealed to them for continuous support especially in the province’s campaign against illegal drugs.
The governor said he had wanted the total eradication of the drug problem in Pangasinan, but he noted that the drug menace is not a simple problem.
However, he gave the assurance that his fight against illegal drugs will take a great impact in reducing or minimizing the problem if not totally eradicate it.
He disclosed that he has already met with concerned officials like the Philippine National Police and other agencies to make plans and strategies for the campaign.
Among their initial plans, he said, is to first secure the areas reported to be drug-free like the towns of Sto. Tomas, Bautista, and Alcala, to name a few.
The governor has also asked for the involvement of the local officials down to the barangays including all concerned citizens to strengthen the campaign.
To further intensify the goals of this campaign, Gov. Espino has required all cities and municipalities to allocate funds for the operation of the anti-drug councils.
The province will also allocate at least .5 percent of the province’s funds for the project to help small towns and affected areas that don’t have enough funds.
It will be recalled that in the recent months, the anti-drug councils in the entire province from the municipal to the barangay levels have been activated and intensified owing to the province’s aim to arrest the drug menace. /ADV
