QUICK, all the rumors you hear about the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight not materializing, toss them out the window.
Be sure of yourself, of your conviction.
Pacquiao will fight Mayweather in May or it won’t rain in Dagupan come June.
By divine will, the fight path has been paved.
One, Pacquiao was at the hard court watching the Miami-Milwaukee NBA game last week in Miami.
Two, Mayweather was also there, seated from ringside across Pacquiao.
They didn’t agree to be there.
They haven’t been talking since talks of their fight started in 2010.
All we heard were Mayweather’s rants against Pacquiao each time he opened his mouth to insult Pacquiao.
All we heard was Pacquiao’s humility in the face of Mayweather’s mostly below-the-belt asides against our National Fist.
And then this, the accidental meeting at the hard court.
What made the event more meaningful was Mayweather’s stunning gesture of approaching Pacquiao during the halftime break.
He offered peace to Pacquiao via a handshake.
They hugged a bit.
They swapped cell phone numbers.
Then back to their respective seats.
By the way, Pacquiao was in Miami because he was judge in the just-ended Miss Universe pageant won by Colombia’s Paulina Vega over Nia Sanchez of the U.S.
Our own MJ Lastimosa was in the Top 10 among 87 beauties from 87 countries.
He watched the Miami-Milwaukee game because he is friends with Miami coach Erik Spoelstra, a Filipino-American.
Mayweather has always been known as an avid Miami fan.
Their presence on the NBA game drew a special shot at the arena’s giant monitor that said, “Coming in 2015.”
What added more exclamation point to the chance encounter was Mayweather’s totally unexpected move to visit Pacquiao and Jinkee (Pacquiao’s wife) at their Miami hotel after the game won by Milwaukee.
They talked for one hour or so.
What they talked about, Pacquiao only had sealed lips.
“We had a great time talking,” Pacquiao said. “But for now, let’s keep the details secret. I do not wish to jeopardize the talks. Let’s just say, the meeting produced positive results.”
At this stage, the contract is almost done.
Technically, only Mayweather holds the key because from the very start, Pacquiao has always been ready to meet The Money to the point that the PacMan had already agreed to pocket “only” 40 percent from the total purse against Mayweather’s 60 percent.
Meanwhile, let’s sit back and relax.
In a little while, the megabuck fight that could generate no less than $250 million will be inked.
