Parents urged to enrol kids in DepEd’s ‘catch-up’ plan
COMPULSORY REQUIREMENT
PARENTS of children who are turning six years old until October 31 this year that are upcoming grade one pupils but missed to attend kindergarten have been advised to register for the catch- up plan of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Gloria Torres, division schools superintendent, reminded parents that the DepEd is strictly imposing the requirement that kindergarten is a prerequisite for grade one in public schools.
She said DepEd came up with a catch-up plan to for upcoming grade one pupils who are six years old until October 31 but failed to attend kindergarten.
“Classes for catch-up plan will start on February 1 and will last for eight weeks,” said Torres.
She also asked parents to register their children, who are turning five until October 31 this year for kindergarten.
Public schools in the country are conducting nationwide simultaneous early registration Mondays to Saturdays.
Parents are required to bring birth certificate especially for kindergarten and grade one enrollees.
Meanwhile, Torres also advised parents to enroll their children with disabilities or special needs as the DepEd has a special program which will cater for their needs.
In Dagupan City, West Central Elementary School is the only public school that has a special education program (SPED) for pupils with disabilities.
DepEd Dagupan also offers additional curriculum for Muslims called Arabic Language and Islam Values Education (ALIVE).
