Red tide still in 4 coastal waters
THE coastal waters of Bolinao, Anda, Alaminos City and Wawa in Bani are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit based on laboratory results, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said.
This was contained in Shellfish Bulletin No. 32, dated Dec. 18, 2014 signed by Director Asis Perez, adding that all types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from these areas are not safe for human consumption.
“Fish, squids, shrimps and crabs are safe for human consumption provided that they are fresh and washed thoroughly, and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking,” the advisory said.
BFAR Regional Director Nestor Domenden advised local government units of the four towns to require market inspectors, quarantine officers, administrators to demand for “Auxiliary Invoice” or clearance for domestic fish movement from transporters/dealers of fish and seashells that are unloaded from other provinces/municipalities to ensure that said commodities did not come from areas found positive of paralytic shellfish poisoning.” (Tita Roces)
