Six teams set for showdown
DEVELOPMENTAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
THE center stage has been set for six titular showdowns in the elementary and secondary levels, girls and boys divisions, as Game 1 winners vie for the clincher in their Best-of-Three championship series in the ultimate phase of the 20th Dagupan City Developmental Basketball Championships, under the auspices of the Department of Education’s Division of City Schools.
Competing for division crowns in the elementary level, results of Game 1 matches held at the People’s Astrodome last week: girls – Pangasinan Universal Institute (PUI) tripped West Central ES (WCES), 30-26; boys, division 1 – Lucao ES (LES) nipped St. Albert the Great School (SAGS), 33-25; and, St. John Cathedral School (SJCS) overturned Dominican School (DC), 81-36.
Earlier in the morning that day, in the battle for third place in the same level, girls: Mangin ES nipped La Marea, 23-15; boys, division 2 – Genesis junked Mangin ES; and boys, division 1 – Creative Montessori Center shoved Wonderland School, 51-42.
Game 2 of all titular showdowns are slated, on Friday, December 12, at the People’s Astrodome, starting at 8 a.m. for the elementary level and at 1 p.m. for the secondary level. Elementary, girls, PUI vs WCES; boys, division 2 – SAGS vs LES; boys, division 1, SJCS vs. DS. Secondary, girls – Judge Jose de Venecia Sr. Memorial National High School vs. PUI;, division 2 – La Marea vs. St. Michael School by the Sea; and boys, division 1 – Federico N. Ceralde Integrated School vs. Divine Word Academy of Dagupan.
DepED Education Supervisor Edilberto R. Abalos said the presentation of trophies and awards to individual and team winners is scheduled on December 12, after the game. Game 3 of the championship series, if necessary, will be played on Saturday, December 13.
The tournament is dubbed as “Mayor Belen T. Fernandez Cup and has been supported by the City Government. (Philamer Celi)
