Pacquiao versus Mayweather very likely now

NOW we can talk about the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight again.

For starters, Bob Arum said if it should happen at all, “It must be within the first five months of 2015.”

I doubt that.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be the first to object to that.

Know why?

Mayweather will need to have a tune-up fight before he faces Pacquiao.

Why, because Pacquiao has just had his own tune-up fight in Chris Algieri.

Mayweather is one shrewd bugger that he will never allow Pacquiao to put one over him.

So, before Mayweather would agree to fight Pacquiao, he needs to meet one patsy or so to serve as warm-up in the projected Fight of The Century.

And why is the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight being always billed as The Fight of The Century?

It is, but only on the basis of the purse involved once it is inked.

This early, Arum, America’s most influential boxing promoter, has envisioned the clash to amass $300 million.

As per Arum’s arithmetic, Pacquiao will pocket no less than $50 million.

And will Mayweather get the same?

I doubt.

Known to be the greediest fighter alive today, Mayweather may haggle for more as he has always boasted that he is the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter.

Well, I can agree to that if only because he is 47-0, holding a record unequalled by anyone and surpassed only by the 49-0 mark set by the late Rocky Marciano who retired as an unbeaten world heavyweight champion.

Unknown to many, it is actually that 49-0 record that Mayweather wants erased.

And with just two wins shy of that mark, Mayweather seems ready to achieve his dream.

And to sweeten the pot, so to speak, Mayweather has included, finally, Pacquiao in his menu.

Mayweather is that clever that all of this “I don’t like Pacquiao” posturing the last five years or so is all bluff.

So that now that Pacquiao has shown the world he seems to have recalled his old fire with his six-knockdown, 12-round domination of Algieri on Sunday in Macau, Mayweather is ready, again, to resume talks.

But first, Mayweather needs a tune-up just like Pacquiao.

That fight could happen within the first five months of 2015.

After Mayweather shall have scored his 48th straight victory before June next year, he’d be more than ready to gun for a 49-0 mark for the record-equaling 49th straight win.

Imagine the paychecks Pacquiao and Mayweather would each stash away before year 2015 ends, to include pay-per-view shares.

They can retire and next sleep on a bed of roses—dollars?—for the rest of their lives.
