SPOKESMAN’S LOAD PROBLEM. Never his kind again as spokesman, please.

Thank God, the self-styled spokesman of a very important government agency that deals with peace and order in Pangasinan will finally be given a new assignment in the fifth district very soon.

Many reporters, yours truly included, feel negative vibes each time when we have to deal with this man in uniform. It’s like having to look into our white crystal ball, like that of fortuneteller Madam Auring’s all the time. “How do you like Mr. M?,” I recently asked a correspondent for a national newspaper. “Wala ka pa ring makukuhang info dun,” came her quick reply.

Very true. If you ask him for some data about a big news development, chances are, you will end up waiting in vain unless you’re not from a local television network. Mamumuti talaga ang mata mo sa kakaantay! (He only cares about TV interviews because he loves being seen on TV not realizing that one negative report about his agency on a national paper can cause his job).

He doesn’t respond to print media’s questions. His reason? He can only send reports to his fellow Globe subscribers. Wala raw load for other networks. Anak ka ng jueteng, bosing!

So when news of his new assignment reached the local media, ang saya-saya ng local media. “Buti naman,” one reporter made this wry remark. – Tita Roces

 

MANGALDAN’S OPLAN SANTINO. Here’s an example of how a local government unit and law enforcers can show concern for the future of their youths. Indeed, if we don’t act to save our young generation from their bad habits including vices they will surely be liabilities to the communities in time instead of being assets as they should be.

I am also glad that part of the town’s campaign is the public display of affection (PDA) that seem harmless but has serious consequences. Both LGU and PNP should really act to penalize establishments that not only tolerate but encourage juvenile delinquency for the sake of profit. –Hilda Austria

 

HACKED EMAIL. Woe to me last week after my email address was hacked by someone who may probably not from this country.

I was changing clothes after arriving from a day-long coverage when my cell phone rung and someone from the other end told me my email address was hacked. Another sent me SMS telling me the same, that she received a frantic message too telling her I was robbed and in a desperate condition in a certain country. She said it looked like the same template sent by hackers when her yahoo address was hacked too a few years ago.

A friend from Davao left a message on chat advising me to change my password. My son also gave me the same advice earlier but told us to quit that address after changing password. We did.

Since there are hackers among billions of internet users among us all over the world, it is better to be careful all the time, something I tend to forget when working. – Leonardo Micua
