Team Pangasinan ranks 2nd runner-up
BATANG PINOY-LUZON LEG
Lingayen – Team Pangasinan placed over-all 2nd runner-up in the recently-concluded Batang Pinoy – Luzon Leg held in Naga City from November 11-15, in a field of 165 participating local government units (LGUs).
The top five winners this year are: Quezon City, Baguio City, Pangasinan, Muntinlupa City and Laguna.
Team Pangasinan racked up 30 gold, 24 silver and 42 bronze medals.
Executive Assistant III Modesto Operania said Pangasinan’s aim to become a powerhouse in Batang Pinoy is fast-taking shape as evidenced by the improvement in the performance of young Pangasinan athletes in the annual sports event since 2011.
He attributed the recent achievement to the sustained support for the conduct of province-wide elimination games by Gov. Amado T. Espino, to select the best Pangasinense athletes who can join Team Pangasinan.
Intensive training conducted for weeks before the competition also helped the athletes to prepare themselves physically and emotionally.
Pangasinan actively participated in Batang Pinoy regional and national games since 2011.
Team Pangasinan was over-all 4th runner-up in the Batang Pinoy Northern Luzon (NL) Leg in 2011 and placed 18th in the Batang Pinoy National Games.
In 2012, Team Pangasinan won the over-all championship of Batang NL Leg held in Lingayen, beating powerhouse Baguio City delegation.
The 2013, Team Pangasinan secured the over-all 2nd Runner-Up post behind cities of Baguio and Quezon.
In the Batang Pinoy 2013 national finals held in Bacolod City Team Pangasinan was 10th top performer in a field of 139 participating LGUs. (PIO)
