AFTER SEVEN YEARS

SAN CARLOS CITY—Elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested last week one of the alleged killers of Mayor Julian Resuello in 2007.

P/Director Benjamin Magalong, CIDG chief, said the gunman identified as Salvador Boquiren, was arrested in Barangay Lubo, Jalajala, Rizal by operatives of the CIDG National Capital Region and the CIDG Region 4A, with the support of the Jalajala Municipal Police Station.

A search warrant and a warrant for his arrest were served. The search yielded two caliber .38 handgun and several ammunition.

CARTOONnews 141116The CIDG report said an informant tagged Boquiren as one of those involved in the killing of Mayor Julian Resuello and his close-in security Eulogio “Jojo” Martinez in April 2007 during the city fiesta’s coronation night inside the San Carlos City plaza.

“It’s like an early Christmas gift for our family,” was the immediate reaction of Vice Mayor Joseres Resuello.

Resuello said his brother Mayor Julier immediately went to Rizal where the suspect was arrested together with a witness, who later positively identified the suspect as one of the shooters.

“There were rumors in his neighborhood that he (Boquiren) killed a mayor in Pangasinan that prompted the police to further investigate and found the case of our father, that’s why they contacted us so that the witness could identify if he is one of the gunmen”, said Resuello.

Boquiren also faces a rape case in Las Pinas City.

The informant’s tip was confirmed by a witness, a close-in security of the slain mayor, who was wounded during the shooting.

He also positively identified Boquiren after he was shown a photo of the suspect.

Meanwhile, Resuello hopes the two arrested suspects, one was Angelito Soriano who was arrested shortly after the shooting incident, will cooperate and give information that will lead to the other suspects and eventually the mastermind of his father’s slay.

There were more than seven suspects involved in the shooting incident. (TRR/HMA)
