Establishment of public crematory in city endorsed
THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has passed a resolution Monday urging Mayor Belen Fernandez to take steps for the establishment of public crematorium that will offer free services to dead indigents, which is in effect an endorsement to cremation over today’s practices of burying the dead.
Passed unanimously was resolution No. R-5171 entitled “Requesting her honor, the City Mayor, to provide free cremation services and the establishment of a public crematorium for the less privileged Dagupenos”.
Authored by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, a lawyer and SP chairman on information, the resolution was co-sponsored by Councilor Alfie Fernandez, and approved unanimously in a regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Brian Lim.
Tamayo said the establishment of the crematory will help address the overcrowding in the city’s public cemeteries owing to rising population.
Citing his personal observation in the cemeteries during the last All Saints Day, Tamayo said he was shocked to see the dead crowding in apartment-type resting places in the Roman Catholic as well as the public cemeteries in Dagupan.
He said the cremation of the remains of the dead is more practical since the surviving members of the dead no longer have to buy or lease a lot for the final resting place.
“It will greatly benefit indigent citizens who no longer need to spend for the burial since the ashes of their beloved can be brought home by them to be kept eternally in their chosen private places,” Tamayo point4d out. (LVM)
