Digitalized movie for PWDs by SM City Rosales
ROSALES—Some 210 visually impaired, deaf, mute and other persons with disability (PWDs) received an early Christmas treat last Wednesday from SM City Rosales.
They were invited to watch a digitally-enhanced movie titled “Hugo” with a plot on Christmas at the SM City Rosales Cinema here with gifts to take home.
Engr. Jersey Mendoza, mall manager, said the special showing for the modified film for the benefit of PWDs was held here for the first time.
“We can’t accommodate them in regular film showing so the movie was modified for them to experience watching movie in a regular theater,” he added.
The students of the Special Education (SPED) and Simulation Therapeutic Activity Centers in various Pangasinan towns were the main audience.
The project is in partnership with SM Cares, the charity arm of SM, SM Cinema, Movie and Television Classification Review Board, Deaf Blind and Center for Advocacy Learning and Livelihood.
After the film showing, each of the guests received gifts from the malls personnel, tenants and suppliers.
Mendoza said the response from the PWDs and their parents and teachers was overwhelming that it inspired the SM management to host one every year.
Jillrose Dalit, a teacher of SPED class in Binalonan town said she and her fellow teachers brought with them 19 pupils to avail themselves of the treat.
Jesusa Gacad, a parent of a seven-year old Joshua, a mute, from Anolid, Alcala town, said her son was very happy to watch for the first time a movie in a regular cinema.
Gacad said Joshua was visibly excited throughout the movie.
