35 vendors get new food carts

LINGAYEN- – -Thirty-five ambulant vendors will be selling their products with a difference, this time with food carts courtesy of the national government’s program “Negosyo sa Kariton” (‘nego-kart’).
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz awarded the carts for the livelihood assistance project to the 35 ambulant vendors from the towns of Basista and Bugallon last week at the Provincial Employment Services Office (PESO) here.
Baldoz said the project will help the vendors, who comprise a big bulk of the informal economy, grow their existing livelihood into sustainable and profitable enterprises.
She was joined by DOLE Undersecretary Reydeluz Conferido, 1st District Representative Leopoldo N. Bataoil, PESO chief Alex F. Ferrer and key officials of DOLE regional office.
The ‘Nego-Kart’ Project, a part of the DOLE’s effort to assist the unemployed, provides vendors with assistance that will enable them to increase, upgrade, and diversify their products and services, and market these to more buyers or customers.
In addition to the vending carts, DOLE also provides the recipients training in production, entrepreneurship and management skills, and initially pays for their enrolment with the Social Security System, PhilHealth and the necessary local government business permits.
Each vendor-beneficiary is provided with a total of P15,000 in assistance including a vending cart and accessory livelihood tools costing P12,000, along with working capital amounting to P2,500 and training assistance worth P500.
Meanwhile, the DOLE secretary commended Gov. Amado Espino Jr. for his administration’s full support to the Pangasinan PESO, which was again cited recently as the Best PESO in the country besting more than 80 provinces in the country.
Baldoz said the achievement of the Pangasinan PESO is attributed from the active support of the governor who is not just a ‘transformational leader’ but an advocate of labor and employment.
The secretary also thanked the support of Congressman Bataoil whom she dubbed as “DOLE’s partner” for lobbying the department’s annual budget for two consecutive years now.
The local government unit (LGU) of Basista with 25 identified ambulant vendors has received a total of P375,000 while the LGU of Bugallon with 10 ambulant vendors got P150,000. (PIO)
