Cayetano boosts fight vs loan sharks
EVEN as he was busy fighting the lonely battle against corruption in the Senate and the hooded “5-6” loan sharks in in many part of the country, Majority Floor Leader Senator Alan Peter Cayetano returned to Pangasinan Sunday for the fourth time to further extend help to members of a jeepney drivers’ cooperative here in Dagupan City.
The senator expressed his admiration for the association headed by Panting Busel after it reported the successful implementation of its micro-lending program with the help of the initial P100,000 seed money provided by the senator last February.
The P100,000 seed capital of the CSI JODA has now grown to more than P113,000 in less than eight months, proving that the effective management of the lending program for tis members is working for them.
Senate Majority Floor Leader Alan Peter Cayetano turns over another P100,000 to the Dagupan City CSI Lucao JODA headed by Panting Busel for the group’s successful micro-financing program for its members. Witnessing the turnover is City Administrator Farah Decano.
Elated by the success of the group, Cayetano made available another P100,000 so that JODA can extend more help to its members and be freed from the clutches of the loan sharks preying on them, charging usurious interest rates.
He said the success of the CSI JODA and many other groups he has helped proves that micro-financing by sectoral groups could work and put the loan sharks out of business.
Cayetano asked JODA to submit to him another project proposal that can help its members.
The senator flew in from Vigan, Ilocos Sur and Angeles City in Pampanga where he also checked the micro-enterprises projects he also assisted.
Dagupan City Administrator Farah Decano, representing Mayor Belen Fernandez who was in Manila for a series of consultations with various agencies, lauded Senator Cayetano’s continuing battle against corruption and his advocacy for transparency and good governance and thanked him for helping marginal sectors of the community in Dagupan.
