Lingayen wet market, slaughterhouse opening postponed
LINGAYEN- Folks in this capital town will have to wait longer for their town’s new wet and slaughterhouse to open. The supposed September simultaneous opening has been moved to a still undefined schedule.
According to municipal administrator Lydia Pioquinto, the market vendors continue to protest the ordinance that stipulates a P75,000. goodwill for a market stall.
The vendors are insisting on P25,000 for each of the 104 fish stalls and 109 meat stalls. Councilor Judy Vargas said since no compromise has been reached to date, no definite date for its opening has been set.
Meanwhile, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) has not accredited the slaughterhouse located in Brgy. Domalandan as “class AA” owing to some technicalities and therefore its opening has been delayed as well. The town may already choose to operate it locally later this month since its personnel have already completed their training.
The two projects were funded by the municipal government’s loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines.- (Johanne Macob)
