PNP notes increasing shabu supply
LINGAYEN–The seeming endless supply of illegal drugs being seized from pushers and users is an indication that a big network of syndicate supplying shabu may now be operating in Pangasinan.
P/Senior Supt. Reynaldo Biay, officer-in-charge at the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO), cited this possibility when he fielded questions from members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) during its regular session on September 29 on the state of peace and order situation in the province.
Biay said based on the results of his office’s intensified campaign vs. illegal drugs, he suspects that a big time network of shabu supplier may already be operating in the province.
However, the board members noted that the report submitted by Biay to the SP indicated nothing about any arrest by the police of a single drug lord and only suspected street pushers have been arrested.
His report did not also indicate any suspicion on the presence of a clandestine drug laboratory in the province where shabu is being sourced out.
Biay simply admitted that the supply of shabu is evidently increasing in Pangasinan as he pointed out that the cheaper price today is an indication that there is more supply in the area.
Records of the police showed that from January to September 2014, the Pangasinan police conducted 341 police operations in various parts of the province that led to the arrest of 440 suspects.
Seized from these operations were 744.06 grams of shabu valued at P4.8 million and 3,328.9 grams of marijuana valued at P249,673 grams.
Of the 440 persons arrested in the anti-drug operations, 161 were categorized as pushers-users; 123 are pushers; and 155 are users.
As a result of these arrests, at least 492 drug cases against separate suspects were filed by the police in court for violating R.A. 9165 or the Anti-Drugs Law of 2002. (LVM)
