SUSPECT CHARGED

THE police has the wrong man.

This was the contention of the Amb ALC Holdings and Management Co., led by lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, that arrived in Dagupan City last Tuesday with members of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption in tow.

At the press conference held at the Orchids Hotel in Dagupan City owned by the ALC Holdings, Topacio took the occasion to reiterate his earlier statement that there is a mastermind behind the shooting of Navarro who need to be unmasked and went to suggest that the National Bureau of Investigation should be called in to investigate the shooting.

He vehemently denied that Amb ALC Holdings interest in Navarro’s case is not linked to the court cases filed in connection with the MC Adore properties but in Navarro as an employee of DWIZ.

“We have contacted the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) central office to look into Orly’s case and to ask additional security team for him”, said Dante Jimenez, VACC president, echoing Topacio’s call during the press conference.

Topacio belittled the swift arrest and subsequent filing of the charges by the Dagupan City Police Station (DCPS) against the suspected gunman Rolando Lim Jr.

He mocked the Dagupan police’s efforts in effecting the arrest of Lim and instead insinuated that the police’s ability to apprehend the suspect in so short a time was an indication that the police had prior knowledge of a plot to kill Navarro.

P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano earlier announced that based on the sworn statements of two eyewitnesses and initial statements of Navarro, there was enough evidence to pin Lim as the perpetrator who shot Navarro.

To underscore his contention Topacio reiterated the P500, 000 reward being offered to anyone who can provide the information that will lead to the identity and arrest of the “mastermind” behind Navarro’s slay attempt.

Navarro, who was present at the presscon, however, soft-pedaled Topacio’s strong assertion that the police was not being truthful.

Hindi sa wala akong tiwala sa Dagupan PNP, I actually thank them for exerting effort to arrest the suspect. Nung sinabi sa akin ang tungkol dun sa nahuling suspek, sinabi ko sa kanila na kung segurado sila na siya yong bumaril ay ituloy na ang kaso pero kung hindi naman ay huwag na lang dahil sabi nga nila it is better to free a hundred guilty criminal than to imprison one innocent person”, said Navarro.
