PPPO refutes VACC claims as baseless

AFTER the Volunteers for Crime and Corruption lambasted the provincial police for the deteriorating peace and order in the province, the latter did not let the criticism pass without any response.

P/Inspector Ryan Manongdo, police information officer of Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) O said the Pangasinan police cannot accept the statement of Jimenez as valid since it was pure speculation based on perception and there were no records presented during the VACC’s press conference to support the group’s claim last Tuesday.

“We (PPPO) will not accept that the province has become a haven of assassins. I love my province and the PNP. We won’t allow anybody to ruin the name of our beloved province without presenting facts or data to support their claim,” said Manongdo during the KBP Forum last Thursday.

He pointed out that their records show a decrease in shooting incidents from June to August this year to 57 as compared to last year’s 72 for the same period.

“We have the facts,” he intoned as he pointed to a few high profile cases that could have influenced VACC’s impression. “ But we cannot deny that the number of shooting incident declined by 8%”, said Manongdo.

He admitted that “we have no tool or formula to compare peace and order situation from one province to another” and he challenged the VACC to show their evidence to support their claim “and we will study it.”

However, Manongdo conceded that PPPO “faces a great challenge to regain the trust and respect of the Pangasinenses” after the shooting rampage by one of their colleagues inside the Pangasinan National High School.

“We condemn and disown the act of Alipio (the gunman),” said Manongdo in a bid to distance the PPPO from his personal acts.
