DOH’s ‘Ligtas Pinas’ launched

THE Department of Health (DOH) and the Provincial Health Office (PHO) seek to immunize some 33,000 children i five years of age and below in it’s month-long measles-rubella  and polio campaign  that started September 1.

The oral polio vaccine will be given to the 0-59 month old babies while the vaccination against measles will be provided to nine-59 months old children.

Dr. Anna Theresa De Guzman, chief of the PHO, said that while no polio case was recorded this year, 230 confirmed cases of measles were listed from January to August 2014, a 423 percent  increase from last year’ s 44 cases.

Helen Posilero, health advocacy officer of DOH in the Ilocos, said “Ligtas Pinas. Magkaisa. Magpabakuna.” aims to bring down measles in the country to  very low levels and move towards measles elimination and will support in keeping the Philippines polio-free.(PIA-Pangasinan/ VHS)
