Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. has already put in place the foundation for the province’s path towards realigning the provincial leadership’s vision for Pangasinan as the best place to invest, work, live and raise a family, according to Provincial Administrator Rafael Howard Baraan.

In an interview with Baraan during the weekly forum of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster held at the Philippine Information Agency in Dagupan City on August 14, the provincial administrator told members of the local media that the province has been successful in pursuing its goals to elevate the province into improving the economic condition of the people.

The people of Pangasinan are living better than most places in the whole country because the governor has tried everything to make things happen to attain his administration’s ultimate goal of transforming the households in Pangasinan as self-sufficient and sustainable.

Baraan noted that it is the goal of the present leadership to convert every household into a production unit through integration and consolidation as he urged Pangasinenses to engage in a common livelihood activity and act as an integrated economic unit to attain a more economically improved means of generating additional income that will help ease the living condition of the people.

The provincial administrator revealed that the provincial government has started doing this through the credit support fund program that assists community-based groups or cooperatives.

“Through integration and consolidation, people will be able to make livelihood operations more economically competitive and sustainable,” Baraan said.

According to the provincial administrator, the governor has always emphasized that “all of the efforts of the provincial leadership will become meaningless if the government is not able to cascade the vision down to the household level where every household head can claim for himself with confidence that indeed Pangasinan is the best place to invest, work, live and raise a family because here in Pangasinan, he has the means to support his family.”

This also translates to Gov. Espino’s ultimate goal of helping the people until all the poorest of the poor Pangasinenses are able to live better lives, and these are not far from realization as the governor has set his strategic direction towards bringing economic development to ease the lives of every Pangasinense.

Baraan told the media that generally, the province has thrived well because the programs of Gov. Espino’s administration redound directly to the benefit of the people.

This he supported with facts such as Pangasinan outpacing the entire country in poverty alleviation comparing the figure of 2006 with the present.

He said poverty incidence in Pangasinan in 2006 was 26.5 percent higher than the national poverty incidence of 23.4 percent, but in 2012, poverty alleviation in the province was recorded at 17 or a decline of 9.5 percent compared with the national record of 22.3 percent or a slight decrease of 1.1 percent.   /ADV
