THE P40 MILLION LOAN IN MANGALDAN. The row over the construction of phase 2 of the market can easily be resolved by an open communication between the contending parties. Both have valid arguments but they are proceeding in different directions. Even the protest rally was needless. The issues raised by the protesters, who by the way were mostly pedicab drivers who are complaining about the renewal fees of their permit, nothing to do with the market project, were easy to address by the town’s officials . Listening coupled with understanding by both parties will easily lead to a mutually beneficial agreement since whatever decision they agree on will be for their whole community. – Hilda M. THE RENEWAL FEE OF PEDICAB DRIVERS. Mayor Parayno upon assumption of office issued an executive order lowering the fee for the renewal of pedicab drivers’ permits. That took effect only for a few months to give way to an ordinance.  An agreement was reportedly reached that until an ordinance is passed, the drivers will not be penalized for non-renewal of their permit. What apparently the drivers were not aware of was the moratorium was only good from January to May.  Quoting Manifor, president of the federation of pedicab drivers “Sabi nila hindi pa kami huhulihin tapos ngayon hinuhuli naman kami eh wala pang ordinansa”. When I asked Mayor Parayno about it, she admitted she wasn’t sure if the drivers were informed. Well, at least she promised to talk to them about the matter, hopefully soon. – Hilda M. Austria

 

KAMAMECHI’S WOES.  The Kamamechi owners have reason to be troubled. Judge Renato Pinlac of RTC-San Carlos City Branch 57, has not resolved their motion to quash the charges filed against the online tutorial center. The center has more than a hundred workers, who are mostly breadwinners of their respective families, and delaying the resolution is badly affecting these families. If the DOJ has already dismissed the case, then what’s taking the RTC too long to rule on the center’s motion? – Johanne R. Macob

 

LINGAYEN’S NEW TRAFFIC SCHEME. There is nothing wrong with new traffic scheme except for the fact that it did not consider restoring order in parking areas. The parking area beside the town hall is a big mess. Tricycles and pedicabs, which I believe should have their own terminals, block the parking space for private vehicles. Then there is the problem about apprehending motorists who park their vehicles. A colleague was recently issued a violation ticket by the local police for parking in a “no-parking” area that had no “No Parking” sign. Take note, this happened before the mayor authorized the PNP and POSO to apprehend and issue tickets. The municipal administrator said the needed traffic signage will soon be installed.
