DAGUPAN CITY—Malacañang has lifted the suspension on Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) chief  Joseph Roland Mejia who was warmly welcomed back by the hospital staff on Wednesday.

The Department of Health (DOH) earlier  imposed a 90-day preventive suspension order on Mejia due to a case filed against him and the members of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) of R1MC last June 23.

Mejia was temporarily replaced by Dr. Emmanuel Acluba who was from Cagayan Valley Medical Center.

Mejia’s written appeal to the office of President Benigno Aquino III was granted through an order dated July 1.

“Pursuant to Section 9 of Administrative Order No. 22, series of 2011, the Order of Preventive Suspension dated 23 June 2014 is hereby stayed, but only as regards appellant, pending resolution of the appeal, ” was the order signed by Michael G. Aguinaldo, deputy executive secretary for Legal Affairs.

Mejia refused imedia nterviews and instead distributed a press statement where he thanked President Aquino for lifting the preventive suspension while he  supports the investigation by the DOH.

“I fully support the investigation being conducted by my department in order to ferret out the truth and clear my name. I hold no grudge against the honorable secretary Ona and I believe that he will be objective in his decision,” the statement said.

The order advised Mejia to furnish secretary Ona a copy of his Appeal Memorandum with proof of service submitted to the office of the President.-Tita Roces
