EXECUTIVE SESSION

LINGAYEN—Concerned about reports that politics could be one possible motive behind the slaying of Urbiztondo Mayor Ernesto Balolong Jr , members of the sanggunian panlalawigan called for an executive session with PNP provincial officials for an update on the progress of the investigation.

However, shortly after the meeting, Sixth District Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr merely hinted to the media that no political motive was discussed during the one and a half hours when he said the police “should consider every possible angle but we would have been more interested if there is any of the political motive.”

“We will also give them possible leads and they (police) were receptive and they would pursue them,” he added.

When asked if the board members were satisfied with the progress report given them, Bince said,” So far it’s still incomplete but according to them, there are still angles that they are pursuing.”

He clarified that the board decided on an executive session “because it involves the security of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members”.

Second District Board Member Raul Sison whose son, Martin Raul Sison, then the vice mayor, succeeded Balolong after he was killed last June 7, initially joined their executive meeting but later begged off and left.

Sison said he did not want his colleagues to feel uncomfortable by his presence at the meeting.

The Balolongs and the Sisons are political rivals. Sison’s wife, Marilyn Sison, was defeated by Balolong in the mayoralty race in 2013.

Acting Pangasinan provincial director P/Sr. Supt. Sterling Raymund Blanco,  was not present at the meeting and instead members of Task Force Balolong.

Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr, presiding officer of the provincial board, was also mum about what transpired in their meeting. –Tita Roces
