San Carlos, Cenpelco to recompute accountabilities
SAN CARLOS CITY—The city government and the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Cenpeclo) agreed to recompute the amount of debt it owes to one another before they settle their obligations through offsetting.
Engr. Rodrigo Corpuz, Cenpelco general manager, made this disclosure on Friday during the KBP Forum held in Dagupan City.
Specifically, the electric coop is seeking clarification on the amount of real property taxes it owes the city, Corpuz said.
The city government owes the electric coop P174 million while the latter has incurred a P212-million debt for unpaid real property taxes. This prompted a proposal to settle the city’s electric bills by offsetting real property taxes owed by the electric coop.
Corpuz said the stated figures have not been accepted by both until a detailed review and clarification by both parties are completed. The coop had initiated a dialogue with the city government regarding the reciprocal obligation of the parties involved.
Both agreed to have their respective re-computation sans penalties, interests, and surcharges.
“We agreed that we will recompute their outstanding electric bills based on basic electric charge and they, too, will present a new computation based on basic tax only,” Corpuz said.
Both parties will meet again soon to present their respective re-computation.
Corpuz is optimistic the issue would be settled soon as both parties expressed willingness to accept their respective accountabiities to each other.
