Another ton of dynamited fish seized
ANOTHER batch of dynamited galunggong weighing one ton with an estimated value of P90,000 was seized by the police manning a checkpoint in Barangay Bonuan Gueset in Dagupan City at 11:00 p.m. on June 17.
The 25 boxes of fish, registered to one Rany Quitliong of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, originated from Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur and were loaded in an Izusu forward truck.
Quitliong failed to produce an auxiliary invoice covering the shipment that would have stated the volume of the cargo and its place of origin.
Rolly Dulay, certified fishery examiner of the City Agriculture Office, determined that these were caught using dynamite based on the condition of the internal organs and mutilation of body parts.
Dulay said it was the fourth shipment of dynamited fish coming from Ilocos Sur seized by authorities in Dagupan this year. The last seizure was May 26 while the fish were about to be unloaded at the Dagupan City Wholesale Fish Market.
The first two cases were on May 24 and 25.
Dulay said the owners of the illegally harvested fish have been charged for violation of Republic Act 8550 or the Philippine Fisheries Law.
After documentation, the seized cargo was sent to various charitable institutions and the district jail of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Dagupan.—LVM
