Tapuac barangay kapitan shot, wounded

A BARANGAY chairman in Dagupan City was shot and wounded when a lone gunman barged into his office at the second floor of  Tapuac Barangay Hall  at 2:45 p.m. of June 13.

Kapitan Jake Ignacio Reyes Jr., on his first term as barangay chairman, succeeding his father and namesake Jake Reyes Sr., sustained a gunshot wound above the chest.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was still being operated on as of press time.

P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, city chief of police, said based on initial investigation, Reyes was able to run down the stairs after the first shot.

The still unidentified suspect gave chase and tried to shoot him again but his gun allegedly jammed.

The suspect then fled on foot and later boarded a tricycle whose driver the  police suspect to be an accomplice.

Abrahano said there were witnesses to the incident and the footage of a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera may help in the early solution of the case.–Hilda M. Austria
