Dagupan market collections up 39%
MARKET collections in Dagupan scored a turnaround from January to May this year, increasing by 39 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Net income receipts in the first five months of the year totalled P24.1 million, up from P17.4 million in 2013, according to a report by Aguedo Sta. Maria, city market administrator.
The city government operates four public markets — the New Malimgas Phase I, Magsaysay Fish Market, New Galvan Market and New Malimgas Phase II.
Net receipts include collections from the public comfort rooms, which used to be operated by private contractors who did not remit any income to the city during the time of the previous administration. These have been been placed under the city government’s management by Mayor Belen Fernandez.
The five public comfort rooms netted income receipts of P954,086 for April and May 2014.
Fernandez said part of the market income will be used for the renovation of the four public markets.
The New Malimgas Phase I market proved to be the biggest income generator with stall rental alone reaching P9.3 million, while meat inspection fee stood at P1.2 million, and deboning fee, P209,017 million .
On the other hand, the fish market entrance fee at Magsaysay Fish Market, which was not tapped before by the past city administration, netted P4.7 million.
Cash ticket collection from January to May this year, said Sta. Maria, was P2.4 million, higher than the P1.9 million for the same period last year.–LVM
