Plans for Dagupan Bangus ordered

TO fast-track the promotion of Dagupan Bangus as a brand, Dagupan Mayor Belen T. Fernandez will organize the Bangus Industry Development Team that will submit a plan and a timeline for the packaging, marketing and promotion of the Dagupan bangus.

She said marketing the brand is necessary to establish the identity and quality of the Dagupan Bangus, considered globally as the tastiest milkfish in the world.

With a plan, Fernandez expressed optimism that in five years the Dagupan Bangus  ‘will not only be on the dining tables of Dagupeños overseas but of all Filipinos.”

Recently officials of the Export Marketing Bureau of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) led by Dr. Westly Rosario, including Rose Kwan, consultant of the city on Bangus Industry Development were in town to establish the fundamentals for the branding project.

The officials discussed with the mayor the initial steps to be taken for the promotion of Dagupan Bangus as a brand in order to effectively penetrate the domestic and international markets.

Kwan claimed Dagupan bangus has a clear advantage because of its distinct taste.

The visitors visited the bangus deboning stations at the Malimgas Public Market, CBN Boneless Bangus in Bonuan Gueset and the Seafood Processing Plant in Bonuan Binloc to complete their assessment.

The mayor said to support the quality production of the Dagupan Bangus brand, she plans to put up an additional deboning center while improving facilities of existing deboning stations.
