PhilHealth “Alaga Ka” program launched
SOME 7,000 Philippine Health Insurance Inc. (PhilHealth) cards were distributed in Dagupan last May 7 during the launching of the PhilHealth Alamin at Gamitin (ALAGA KA) program.
With the new beneficiaries, there are now almost 12,000 PhilHealth-enrolled Dagupeños under the government’s sponsorship, said Dr. Leonard Carbonel, head of the city health office (CHO).
“The benefits of their PhilHealth card are extended to their children and to their parents who are over `60 years old,” Carbonel added.
The new enrollees will enjoy health services, including the application of the no balance billing policy to all case rates.
Previously, the no balance billing policy applied only to 23 health cases but its coverage has since been expanded.
Aside from free hospitalization in government hospitals, the beneficiaries are also entitled to free check- up with laboratory tests and medicines in health centers.
A P1.9 million capitation fund was received by the CHO to purchase medicines.
The city government assured beneficiaries that their cards will be renewed next year as it aims to have 15,000 PhilHealth beneficiaries by the end of 2014.–Dada Austria
