SAN MANUEL—Not to worry, all’s well at the San Roque dam.

While the water level at the San Roque Multi-purpose Dam has been going down since January with the dry season, it remains within normal range and far from the critical level.

Engr. Virgilio Garcia of the National Power Corporation’s field office in charge of the Agno Flood Forecasting and Warning System that covers the dam area, said last week that the water level as of Monday was 239.80 meters above sea level (masl), still almost 15 meters above the 225 masl critical level.

Garcia said the San Roque Dam continues to provide irrigation requirements and meets its power generation contracted capacity of 110 megawatts.

Irrigation is provided to a 20,000-hectare area during the dry cropping.

Garcia said the rainfall from thunderstorms last week have little impact on the dam’s water level.

“We need monsoon rains,” Garcia said, adding that the water level is expected to go up with the rains by the latter part of May or June.–Tita Roces
