LINGAYEN– “As a young Pangasinense, the legacy I want to pass on the next generation is the way I value education, because education is something that cannot be taken away from us… A man who is learned is a man with vision… like what our governor wanted to be – to be educated and to be globally competitive.”

This response to the question “As a young Pangasinense, what legacy can you pass on to the next generation?” and her apparent beauty won for Allysa Ashley Calimlim, Villasis town’s representative, this year’s Limgas na Pangasinan crown.

Calimlim bested 24 candidates during the pageant’s coronation night held April 30 at the Capitol Plaza.

She also bagged several special awards, including Miss Photogenic and Best in Long Gown.

Meanwhile, first runner up was Princess Khrista Ventura of Sison, who also won “Miss Friendship” title,  and second runner up was Lingayen’s Yaldene Ferrer.

GUV’S ANSWER

In his speech during the event, Governor Amado Espino Jr. gave his own response to pageant question, saying, “Talking about legacy…isang responsibilidad namin ay ang pangalagaan ang mga binigay ng Diyos…para ipamana namin sa susunod na henerasyon dahil karapatan nila ‘yon.”

He also wished the young generation to do the same and take care of the province’s natural resources for future generations.

Other winners of special awards were: Miss Sual Jacqueline Macatiag (Best in Talent and Darling of the Press), Miss Alaminos City Apple Joy Bacay (Best in Creative Costume), and Dagupan City Crystal Kim Mararac (Best in Swimsuit).

Binibining Pilipinas Tourism 2014 Parul Shah, a Pangasinense who was among the judges in the Limgas talent competition held April 25, said the Limgas candidates have a strong potential to win national beauty tilts as she did.

Shah advised the 25 bets to “just have fun, let go, and be themselves on stage.”

The Limgas na Pangasinan pageant is a major activity for the month-long staging of the province’s annual Pista’y Dayat (Sea Festival), which traditionally kicks off with the Agew na Pangasinan (Pangasinan Day) on April 5 and ends first week of May.—Johanne R. Macob
