Farmers pleased with palay buying price
FARMERS in Pangasinan and other parts of Region 1, a major rice-producing area, are benefitting from the record high farm-gate price of P23.00 per kilogram even as harvest for the summer cropping season has reached its peak.
Katho Moreno of San Carlos City and Way Ruaboro of Mangatarem said the price which traders offer for their produce is just enough for a good return on their investment in farm inputs, including seeds, fertilizers and wages for farm helpers.
Ricardo Sarmiento of Talibaew agreed and expressed hope that the present buying price of palay will continue.
The National Food Authority has reported that based on their monitoring, dry palay’s buying price remains at a low of P22.00 per kilogram to a high of P23.50 per kilogram.
NFA Regional Director Carlito G. Co said he doesn’t see any easing up in the buying price as rice traders continue to compete with each other to buy as many stocks of palay as they can.
