Teenage Perez tops Sual bike meet
PANGASINAN’s young amateur rider Dominic Perez from Santo Tomas town out-pedalled his professional rivals in the last 10 kilometers and outsprinted Edmundo Nicolas Jr. in the last 300 meters to win by three-bike lengths the open category of the Sual National High School Grand Reunion Bicycle Road Race held April 26.
The 19 year-old Perez, winner of the 2012 Werweran ed Mangaldan, clocked the 145-kilometer flat and hilly course in four hours, two minutes and 15 seconds to pocket the P10,000 top prize with Nicolas coming three seconds behind for P8,000.
Bugallon son Renier Clauna led the three-man second pack to land third and earned P6,000 while Nicolas’ teammate, Juancho Callorina, and San Jacinto stalwart Reynaldo Navarro finished fourth and fifth and collected P4,000 and P2,000 respectively.
Rounding up the top ten that received P1,000 each were: Renato Sembrano of Mangaldan; John Mark Camingao of Marikina City; Bonijoe Martin of Villasis; Ericson Obosa of Manaoag; Joel Crisostomo of Laoac.
Benigno Molina of Mangaldan topped the 40-49 years old category worth P5,000 while Benjie Nituan of Binalonan and Ricky Zabala of Laoac finished second and third with P4,000 and P3,000, respectively.
Mon Nicolas of San Manuel ruled the 50 years old and above division worth P5,000 and Hector Padilla came in a close second with a price of P4,000 and another San Manuel rider Oscar Espiritu landed third to bag P3,000.
Three Dagupeños dominated the Executive-Manager class spearheaded by businessman Alex Boras, while Danny Bartolome and Jose Roy Parayno landed second and third, correspondingly.
All the top three winners in each category also received trophy apiece from the sponsors Gerald Valdez and company.–JAGJr.
