CASH incentives were given to the young athletes of Dagupan, as well as their coaches and trainers, for bringing home 76 gold medalss, 58 silver and 43 bronze medals from the recent Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet.
Keeping her promise, Mayor Belen Fernandez handed out P1,000 cash for each gold medal, P700 for silver, and P500 for bronze medal to the players while the coaches and trainers received P1,000 each last March 26 at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome.
Fernandez said the incentive is part of showing support to the city’s athletes, noting that proper motivation and encouragement will help them aim to perform well in competitions.
The Balon Dagupan athletes emerged as champions in arnis (elementary division, boys and girls category), athletics (secondary division, boys), swimming (elementary division, girls), and basketball (elementary division) during the R1AA Meet.
As a result, the city placed first among all other cities and finished fourth overall in the standings among 13 contingents.
“This is enough reason for us to celebrate as our performance has improved as compared to the previous years,” said Fernandez who expressed hope that the team’s performance will be maintained or surpassed in next year’s R1AA.
She assured the athletes of continuous support under the program Building The Future in Developing Our Excellence in Sports (BTF DOES it). (CIO)
