BIR R1 targets P9.9 B for 2014
THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Region 1 has appealed to taxpayers to pay their right dues promptly as it revealed being given a higher collection target of P9.9 billion this year.
Lee Caday, chief of the taxpayer Assistance Unit of BIR Region 1, said the target — although close to P2 billion higher than its collection last year of P8.06 billion — is achievable if taxpayers will pay their taxes correctly.
In 2012, the overall collection of BIR Region 1, which covers the provinces of Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte, was P7.2 billion.
BIR Region 1 comprises six revenue district offices, one each in La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte; eastern, central and western Pangasinan.
Revenue District 4 in Central Pangasinan based in Calasiao topped in collection, followed by Revenue District No. 3 in La Union.
RDO 4 has so far collected P35 million from January to February this year compared to only P32 million in the same period last year, said Caday.
TAX FRAUD
Meanwhile, Eman Mendiguarin of the tax fraud investigation unit of BIR Region1, said a criminal case has been filed against a businessman from San Jacinto, Pangasinan for non-payment of taxes.
A hotel in Ilocos Sur was closed in February for violation of the revenue code.
Meanwhile, Caday clarified that Pangasinan doctors are not targetted by the agency’s ‘shame’ campaign because he noted that the doctors in the province religiously pay correct taxes.–LVM
