All set for Bangus Festival triathlon race

ALL is set for the first Bangus Triathlon on April 13, one of new additions to this year’s Bangus Festival celebration.

Dr. Cecil M. Reyna, event co-chairman, said the race, organized by Mayor Belen Fernandez, the Pangasinan Triathlon Association (PTA), Team Bike Stop (TBS) Multi Sport Group and Reyna herself, has been sanctioned by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP).

This means the ctiy will be officially included in the list as one venue for a triathlon races in the country.

“This is a good sign because it will help boost our tourism industry,” said Reyna.

The  triathlon will be having the standard distances,” added Reyna.

The race will start at 6:20 a.m. at Tondaligan Beach and will end at the city plaza. The participants will be using the whole stretch of A.B. Fernandez Avenue and the Jose De Venecia Expressway Extension passing through Arellano Street.

The streets will be closed to traffic totally to ensure the safety of the participants but the organizers assured that the streets will be reopened once the cut-off time for the three endurance events has lapsed.

Melvin Fausto, national triathlon coach, said Dagupan City is a potential place for triathlon races because of its nice beach and roads, plus the good food is an added attraction.

However, being a first-time event in the city, the race will be will be limited to a maximum of 200 invited participants. (CIO)
