LTO to deputize Dagupan’s POSO

DAGUPAN’s crackdown against colorum tricycles will continue and will be enforced with more teeth by the city’s traffic enforcers of the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) deputized by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

LTO Regional Director Teofilo Guadiz III was in Dagupan last week to inform Mayor Belen Fernandez that selected POSO traffic officers can be deputized to enforce the law against operators of colorum tricycles.

The deputization was offered following reports that members of the task force against colorum tricycles were confiscating drivers’ licenses without due authority even as retired SPO4 Carlito Ocampo, head of the task force, has denied th report.

Ocampo said the colorum tricycles were merely stopped from plying the streets in accordance with a city ordinance.

The stricter implementation of the ordinance is part of the city government’s program to improve traffic flow in the city, especially in the downtown area.

Guadiz said LTO fully supports her drive to enforce the anti-colorum vehicle law.

Earlier, owners of colorum tricycles who formed a group trooped to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP)  to ask the city government to allow them to operate at night when there are less tricycles on the road.

However, this was opposed by members of the Dagupan Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (DATODA) and reiterated that only tricycles  with franchises must be allowed to opeated in Dagupan.—LVM
