STA. BARBARA—The house of the late ex- governor Cipriano “Tito” Primicias Jr. in Barangay Banaoang here was razed by fire Wednesday night.

The caretaker of the house, Ben Velasco, 38, told investigators that upon hearing an explosion at the second floor, he went to check and saw an electrical short circuit, which quickly ignited that portion of house.

Responding firemen from the town and nearby municipalities declared the fire out after an hour but the house, along with the former governor’s memorabilia, was totally burned with initial damage estimated at P2 million.

Chief Inspector Grandeur Tangonan, deputy police chief here, said the house was made of light and concrete materials so the fire spread fast.

Some mango trees in the yard were also partly damaged.

No one was reported injured.

The sister of the late governor, Marietta Primcias-Goco, said the burnt house was constructed before her elder brother was elected governor, which was in 1967.

Goco, who previously ran but lost in a gubernatorial race, said she used the house during her political bid.—Tita Roces
