THE Office of the Provincial Agriculturist is all set for the dispersal of another 120,000 pieces of tilapia fingerlings in the communal waters of three municipalities in the province.

The towns of Malasiqui, Bolinao, and Balungao are among the beneficiaries of the three-day tilapia fingerlings dispersal from February 19 to February 21.

The continuing dispersal of tilapia fingerlings is intended to promote the steady growth of the fishing industry with increased production of quality products while conserving natural resources.

The fingerlings account for the year round production of the government-owned hatcheries in Lingayen, Sta. Barbara and San Quintin and augmented by fingerlings from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

“This reflects our current thrusts on sustainable production and resource conservation which makes Pangasinan as the leading producer in agriculture and fisheries contributing 87% of the region’s fish production in 2013,” the provincial government said.

To date, the province has a total of 3.22 million tilapia fingerlings dispersed under the leadership of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. in 123 communal bodies of water throughout the province. (PIO)
