SAN CARLOS CITY—A two-year old boy died from complications due to measles, the first casualty from the disease recorded in the province this year.

Dr. Policarpio Manuel, officer-in-charge chief of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) based in this city, announced that the patient John Carlo Matabang of Barangay Longos here succumbed to pneumonia.

Manuel said the boy had the manifestations of measles when he was brought to the hospital on January 21 and died on January 25.

From January 1 to 30 this year, the PPH has admitted for confinement a total of 134 patients suspected to have measles and their blood samples have been submitted to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine for confirmatory test, Manuel added.

Of this total, San Carlos City has the most number of cases, followed by Bugallon and Calasiao towns.
