THE database on the Philippine’s poorest of the poor will be updated and expanded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its second round of the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), now called Listahanan: Talaan ng Pamilyang Nangangailangan.

Nora Dela Paz, DSWD Region 1 Assistant Regional Director for Administration, said this second assessment will cover 15.3 million households in all rural and urban areas nationwide, 928,633 of which are in Region 1.

There are 535,138 identified poor households in Pangasinan.

Delas Paz said  accurate, complete, and reliable data will ensure that all validated poor families will become potential beneficiaries of social protection programs.”

Listahanan i identifies who and where the poor are, and the data is used by national government agencies (NGAs) and other stakeholders in determining who to prioritize for social protection programs such as the cash-transfer Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

It will also validete the National Statistics and Coordination (NSCB) data showing that poverty incidence worsened from 24.4% in 2003 to 26.9% in 2006, or from four million poor families to 4.7 million.–Johanne R. Macob
