WITH a more efficient system that meant faster processing time, plus some incentives and freebies, the Dagupan City government has so far increased its tax collection by P6.1 million from P28.9 million in 2013 to P35.1 million this year over the January 2-18 period.

The One Stop Business Center (OSBC), which handles business permit applications and renewals, reported that collection from business permits and license this year has so far reached P20.4 million, higher than the P15.5 million last year.

Real property tax collection for the first 16 days this year reached P9.4 million as compared to P8.8 in the same period last year.

Miscellaneous fees this year reached P3.5 million compared to P2.6 million last year.

Collections on community taxes from both individuals and corporations are still being consolidated, according to OSBC head Carmen Olpindo Olpindo.

Collection of taxes without penalty will be in effect until February 20 this year based on an ordinance recently passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Mayor Belen Fernandez congratulated OSBC for the increased collection as well as the positive feedback from taxpayers on the improved system of processing.

An informal survey of business tax payers indicate that with all requirements in place, it took only between 10 to 35 minutes before their permits were released.

In the past, it took hours or even days to have permits processed.

INNOVATIONS

With the new sytem, offices from which taxpayers are to obtain the requirements were already sharing space with the OSBC, including the city engineering, the city health office  and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

For the convenience of filers, the OSBC has provided more seats to taxpayers, serving coffee and candies.Free mugs are given to filers once their permits are released.

Names of taxpayers who have settled their dues are automatically entered in the central registry and are entitled to a raffle, with a trip to Boracay as the top prize.
