PEO-rehabilitated classrooms in Leyte now serving students
LINGAYENβThe eight classrooms that were rehabilitated by members of the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) during the humanitarian mission of the provincial government last December 13-20 l in Dulag, Leyte are now functional and classes are being held there since January 6.
The PEO-rehabilitated classrooms are located in Dulag SPED (Special Education) Center (4 classrooms); Dulag Central School (2 classrooms) and Dulag National High School (2 classrooms).
The classrooms, according to a schoolteacher in Dulag Central School, are now being used by intermediate elementary pupils and senior high school students.
During the turnover ceremony of the units last December 20, five days after the rehabilitation works, Dulag Mayor Manuel Sia Que thanked Gov. Amado Espino Jr. who was represented by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. for choosing the schools as beneficiary of the rehabilitation program.
βItong mga ginawa nyo sa mga schools sa Dulag ay hindi talaga makakalimutan from the bottom of our hearts,β Que said.
Board Member Clemente Arboleda Jr., who headed the humanitarian team, along with colleagues in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan — Board Members Liberato Villegas, Generoso Tulagan and Raul Sison β Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Emilio Samson, Provincial Health Officer Anna Teresa de Guzman and Provincial Information Officer Orpheus Velasco witnessed the turnover ceremonies.
The school administrators, District Supervisor Charito Fe Lumagad, Principals Corazon Raagas, Felipe Alicando, Lourdita Rinos, and the school teachers likewise expressed heartfelt gratitude to Espino for adopting their schools.
School children, who witnessed the rehabilitation of their typhoon-devastated classrooms, also expressed appreciation for rebuilding the havens of their education.
The rehabilitation included: clearing of debris inside the classrooms, re-roofing, and repair of wooden trusses, installation of classroom partitions and cleaning of school grounds.
The PEO also installed water systems within the school compound and were sanitized by the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The provincial government also extended the following humanitarian efforts in several typhoon-devastated barangays of the town: medical and dental services and health information dissemination drive; relief goods distribution, gift-giving and stress-debriefing to school children; film-showing at the Dulag Plaza; clearing of debris; and installation of street lights at Dulag Plaza and Christmas lights at the Lady of Refuge Parish.–PIO
