Arcinue family wants more info

NOT so fast.

This was the stance of the Arcinue family as they reiterated their commitment to give the P250,000 reward to the informant who gave a lead that resulted to the arrest of the gunman who shot former Lingayen vice mayor Ramon Arcinue and his wife Zorahayda while seeking further validation at the same time.

“We have to validate, analyze very well. We would not just award but a careful study must be made,” said Sual Mayor Roberto Arcinue, brother of Ramon.

The mayor also lamented that they were not informed nor invited by the provincial government when it turned over the separate P500,000 reward it promised.

“I think it would have been more proper if we were informed or invited because we are the victims here,” Arcinue said.

In response, Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr. said no malice was intended and that he was simply tasked to make the hand-over the previous week, in the presence of Provincial Treasurer Marilou Utanes, to the male tipster whose identity was kept confidential.

“We just fulfilled our earlier pledge. I was called to turn over the check and so I did,” Calimlim said.

The informant was accompanied by a lawyer and agents from the National Bureau of Investigation headquarters in Manila.

Calimlim added that given the sensitivity of the case, other information could not be disclosed immediately.

The NBI claims that the informant gave vital information that led to the arrest of  Guialaludin Sacandal “Boy Muslim” Otto in General Santos City last November, the suspected gun-for-hire whom witnesses identified as the killer of the Arcinue couple in a shooting in 2012.

The municipal government of Lingayen under then Mayor Ernesto “Jonas” Castañeda also pledged a separate P250,000 reward which has yet to be given.—Eva Visperas
