Pangasinan to help rebuild Leyte
LINGAYEN—The provincial government of Pangasinan is again extending help to Typhoon Yolanda-ravaged Leyte province, this time by sending a medical and construction teams to assist in relief and reconstruction efforts.
Governor Amado Espino Jr. announced last week that 110 personnel of the provincial government headed to Dulag, Leyte on December 13 to help reconstruct public structures and to deliver additional relief packs.
The team — composed of engineers; doctors, dentists, nurses, and other medical staff; social welfare office staff; general services office staff; and personnel of the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council – left in a nine-vehicle convoy composed of two buses, one ambulance and six dump trucks loaded with construction materials, equipment, and relief goods.
“The team will be staying in a certain town near Palo, Leyte for one week to build structures like school building or barangay health center and provide medical and dental services,” the governor said adding that the provincial government hopes that its effort will inspire others to continue helping the victims of the recent calamity.
Pangasinan earlier sent financial aid amounting to P2-million each for the province of Leyte and the city of Tacloban but Provincial Administrator Rafael Howard Baraan said the actual presence of Pangasinan representatives will mean more.
“Iba ‘yong personal presence…just to tell them that no matter how far they are from us, we are there to provide actual support…and at least provide the people some hope so that they will be reminded that they are not alone,” said Baraan of the project dubbed Operation Tulong Yolanda.
The governor and Vice Governor Ferdinand Calimlim will later follow the team to formally turn over the work accomplished to the Leyte local government.
Meanwhile, Espino noted that at least 11 affected families from Leyte have relocated to Pangasinan.–Johanne R. Macob
