PUNCH contributor Visperas wins journalism award
EVA Visperas, long-time contributor to The Sunday PUNCH and a reporter of The Philippine STAR, won in the 7th Bright Leaf Annual Journalism Awards (BLAJA) in the Best Agriculture News Story (national) category.
The winning entry of Visperas, which was also featured in The PUNCH, was “BFAR promotes use of aerators to increase shrimp production”.

Other winners included: Ilocos Sur correspondent Teddy Molina who won the Tobacco Story of the Year award for his article “Is the tobacco industry headed for collapse?”; Agriculture Story of the Year “ What’s behind the fuss over CP foods?” by Fermin C. Diaz of Lamb Magazine, Agriculture Photo of the Year for” Planting Time” by David Leprozo, Jr. of Manila Standard Today, Tobacco Photo of the Year “The Sun life farm” by Mauricio Victa of Business Mirror, Best Agriculture News Story (Regional) for “Farmers in Region 12 urged to plant organic rice for foreign markets” for Minda News written by Romer “Bong” Sarmiento, Best Agriculture Feature Story (national) for “Highland ‘yuyu’ in Cordillera nearing extinction” by Marilou Guieb of Business Mirror.
The Oriental Leaf Award was given to Inez Magbual who has received numerous Bright Leaf awards in past years.
The annual BLAJA, sponsored by Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation (PMFTC), is the most anticipated news, features and photo competition on agriculture journalism in the Philippines.
Bayen Elero, PMFTC Director for Corporate Affairs, said the BLAJA was organized in 2007 to recognize the excellence of journalists whose works had been published, shown on television or aired on radio.
