Guilon-guilon dance competition 2014 will be school-based
NEXT year’s Bangus Festival will see some changes in the featured events, starting with the Guilon-guilon street dancing competition which will become school-based rather than by barangay.
Executive Consultant for Culture and Arts Zenaida L. Sinlao, chairman of Guilon-guilon 2014, said the contest will be handled by the Department of Education’s Division of City Schools in Dagupan and new dance steps will be incorporated.
“It is unfortunate that we do not have our own dance steps which are originally ours because in the past our choreographers did copy cats of the dance steps of other regions. This year, we are launching our own dance steps based on the manner of harvesting bangus in the fishpond,” said Sinlao.
The committee for the event had a first-hand experience in harvesting bangus in a fishpond last Tuesday to have a better understanding of the process.
“We will do a workshop for trainors to introduce the guilon-guilon dance steps together with the festivals guidelines,” explained Sinlao.
Under the new plan. there will be two categories: one for elementary with 70 members and another for high school with 100 members.
As in previous years, the winner will represent the city in the Festivals of the North, which will be featured again in the 2014 Bangus Festival.
Sinlao assured that each participants will be given seed money for their expenses.
“Winners will receive a huge amount of prizes, which we will announce later,” concluded Sinlao. (CIO)
