LINGAYEN–“Prayer for forgiveness, peace and well-wishes for typhoon Yolanda victims.”

This was the appeal of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. in his message during the first Friday mass held at the Capitol grandstand officiated by Rev. Victor Embuido last December 6 that preceded the lighting of the 50-foot Christmas tree.

“As we pray for forgiveness and peace let us not forget to help those in need especially those affected by typhoon Yolanda,” the governor said as he led the ceremonial lighting of the giant Christmas tree, which he stressed is a symbol of love and hope for the people of Pangasinan.

The governor also cited that despite many obstacles that came his way the past several months, he chose to forgive, saying, “This is the season of love and happiness and it is only fitting for us to forgive those who wronged us, pray for peace, and help others who need our support like those people affected by typhoon Yolanda.”

After the celebrated mass, the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree took place with the presence of some members of the board led by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr., Pangasinan First Lady Prescilla Espino, chiefs of office, along with Lingayen Mayor Josefina “Iday” Castaneda and Bugallon Mayor Jumel Espino.

Hundreds of spectators were treated with the simple yet elegant sight of the Christmas tree adorned with glittering lights and images of angels.

The Christmas tree’s creative design was a collaboration of artistic works of some local artists, including Corlito Ignacio, Jr., Jhun Rioferio and Antoniothons Pascua (Anak Pawis Artists).

It has become a nightly attraction for Pangasinense and visitors alike who long to feel the spirit of Christmas. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino and Reymart B. Carino)
